SS14 Swimwear trends guide

Even if you haven’t had the chance to perfect your beach body in time for holiday season, there really is no excuse for sporting last year’s tired old swimwear. After all, finessing your on-trend off-duty wardrobe is part of the fun of planning your trip, and will ensure you’re looking appropriately fabulous as soon as you arrive.

From sporty to glamorous, there really is a 2014 swim trend to suit everyone. Take the chance to prove your fashion status pool side and give yourself an instant body confidence boost with our edit of new season styles to look out for.

Exotic accents

Michael Kors showed animal print sexy swimwear for SS14 and modern snake print will give a on-point refresh to your look. Infinitely glamorous, exotic accents will always complement sun-kissed skin.

Sporty meets surf style

Look out for sports-inspired detailing. Rashguards, surf and botanical prints and fold-top briefs all feel fresh. Big wave and navy blue also make a trend splash. Preen, Dior and Rachel Comey (below) all featured the bold hue for SS14.

Feminine flourish

Pretty prints as seen at Bottega Veneta and Zimmerman SS14 will appeal to your girly side. Add extra details with fun bows or flirty frills and keep the rest of your accessories minimal for a chic finish.

Back to black

Flattering and timeless, for some of us, this trend has never gone away. Don’t get too comfortable though. The way to make black swimwear feel fashion-forward this season, is about extra details. Resort SS14 designers including Herve Leger and Jason Wu (below), focussed on asymmetry, cut-outs and straps.

Cover-ups

Searching for a look to take you from beach to bar? With so many sophisticated sartorial takes on the classic cover-up, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Try culottes, wide-leg trousers, floaty maxi shapes, kaftans, slip-on dresses or a boyish linen shirt for instant, versatile style.
