UKFT Awards names 2014 winners

Lingerie and swimwear brands Curvy Kate and Okun Beachwear were named winners of prestigious gongs at the UKFT Awards last night.

Large cup label Curvy Kate picked up the Brand Award in the Lingerie and Beachwear category, beating Olivia von Halle and Beautiful Bottoms, while African-inspired Okun Beachwear took home the House of Fraser Rise Award.

Other finalists in the Rise Award category were Hentsch Man and Native Youth.

Hosted by ITV presenter and Strictly Come Dancing star Susanna Reid, the UKFT Awards were held at East London’s Tabacco Dock, where industry professionals and celebrities, including model Jack Guinness and American singer and television presenter Brix Smith, turned out in their droves.

During the ceremony, Dame Margaret Barbour was honoured with the NatWest UKFT Outstanding Achievement Award for her long-standing contribution to the fashion industry, while bold London label House of Holland won the prestigious UKFT Designer Award.

Other notable winners on the evening included London and online retailer MATCHESFASHION.COM, which picked up the UKFT Retailer Award in recognition, and Luxury Fabrics, which walked away with the Smart Currency UKFT Exporter Award in recognition for its recent international growth.

UKFT CEO said: “We were inundated with entries for this year’s NatWest UK Fashion & Textile Awards and we’re delighted to be able to celebrate with so many worthy winners. From young businesses just starting out on their journey, to iconic British fashion brands that have shaped the face of the industry, they’re all a testament to the fact that the UK is leading the way in fashion, textiles and design across the globe.”

Commenting on its win, Curvy Kate said in a statement: "We are absolutely thrilled to be winners of this prestigious award. It's great to see the hard work, dedication and passion of the Curvy Kate team is recognised by the Fashion and Textile industry, as we look forward to celebrating our 5th Birthday this year."
